甲骨文“网”是象形字，左右两边各一竖，表示插在地上的两条木棍；中间是数量不等的斜向交叉线，表示用麻绳等物织成的网。卜辞中用作张网捕猎。
The oracle bone script for “网”（wǎng） is a pictograph.It features two vertical lines on either side，representing two stakes planted in the ground，with several slanted intersecting lines in the center symbolizing a net woven from materials such as hemp ropes. In divination inscriptions，it signifies the act of setting a net for hunting.（文字翻译 童林）
