　　甲骨文“喜”字，上半部分为“壴”（zhù），是鼓的象形初文；下半部分是“口”，表示“鼓”的属性是使人振奋，本义是喜乐、高兴。一说“壴”表示敲鼓，“口”表示唱歌，整个字形会意击鼓唱歌作乐，本义不变。

　　The oracle bone script for the character“喜”（xǐ）consists of an upper part“壴”（zhù），which is the pictograph of a drum，and a lower part“口”，symbolizing the drum’s function to evoke joy and excitement. Its original meaning is joy and happiness. Another interpretation is that“壴”signifies drumming，while“口”signifies singing，together implying the act of drumming and singing，with the original meaning of joy unchanged.
